Hutchison Ports Sohar signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) for a 24/7 agricultural inspection service at its terminal premises inside the Port of Sohar on 31 July at W Hotel Muscat. The agreement was signed between H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Said bin Sulaiman Al Aufi, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Mr. Anacin Kum, Chief Executive Officer, Hutchison Ports Sohar. The event was also graced by H.E. Eng. Said Bin Hamdoon Al Harthi, Undersecretary of Ports & Maritime Affairs, and Col. Khalifa Al-Siyabi DG of Customs.
Regular facility upgrades, round-the-clock services and special attention to the customers’ needs are imperative for customer satisfaction and safety, growth of trade and economy of the Sultanate. Anacin Kum, CEO of Hutchison Ports Sohar said in his speech, “At present the agricultural inspection service can only be carried out between 07:30 hours to 23:00 hours.”
“Together with MoAF, we will deploy 10 doctors who will be providing round-the-clock inspection services at the terminal. This service will not only cover the perishable items but will also include the inspection and clearance of fertilizers, crops and pesticides”, he added.
Once the service is established, the elected doctors will have the authority to perform the agricultural inspection for all the agricultural cargo handled at the container terminal which will ensure extra safety, efficiency and quick inspection responses.
